Posted by kspruce | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 23-03-2017

This week in FS2 we have been using Numicon to investigate different ways to make 10. We recorded the different ways as number sentences.

‘4 add 6 equals 10 and 6 add 4 equals 10.’

‘2 add 8 equals 10 and 8 add 2 equals 10 too!’

‘7 add 3 makes 10!

We then used the Numicon to complete challenge cards where we had to work out the missing numbers in addition sentences to 10.

‘6 add something equals 10. The missing number must be 4!’

‘3 add something equals 10. The Numicon says it must be 7!’

This week was British Science Week. In FS2, we created ‘Oobleck slime’ using cornflour and water.

‘It feels soft at first but when we put the water in it goes all sticky. It fell off my fingers!’

‘The slime feels really wet on my hands! If I put it on my fingers it goes stringy!’

‘I’m putting it on my hand and then it goes into the bowl!’

We investigated what happened when we added food colouring to the slime…

‘It’s gone red!’

‘Wow, it’s turned pink! I really like this colour!’

‘It looks like ice-cream now! I’m going to try and get it out of the bowl.’

We left the slime out over night and observed what happened to it…

‘It’s all dried out! We need to put more water in it!’

This week in FS2, we went outside to find some ice balls had appeared. Upon closer inspection, we saw that there were some fish trapped inside!

We investigated what happened when we left the ice balls out over time.

‘The ice feels really cold. It’s making my hands freezing!’

‘Look the ice is melting! It’s turning into water!’

‘The ice isn’t melting much today because the sun isn’t out.’

‘Wow! This ice feels really cold on my hands!’

‘The fish are stuck inside the ice. The sun needs to come out and turn the ice to water.’

‘The ice feels cold on my hands.’

‘The ice will melt in the sun.’

‘There fish are frozen inside the ice balls. We will have to wait for the sun to melt them.’
