This week in FS2, we have been reading the text ‘On Sudden Hill’ by Linda Sarah and Benji Davies. The text is about two friends who enjoy making marvellous contraptions out of cardboard boxes.

Our FS2 area has been filled with empty cardboard boxes, all different shapes and sizes. We were challenged to create something with them. Take a look at some of the fantastic things we created…

It’s not a box! It’s a bird!

It’s not a box! It’s a football pitch!

This week in FS2, we have had a Magnificent Maths week where lots of activities within the area have been linked to Maths.

Take a look at some of the magnificent things we have been doing…

In the water tray, we used language such as ‘full’ ‘half full’ and ’empty’ to describe the amount of water in different containers. We then started to measure the water more accurately using  a measuring jug.

We ordered items from shortest to tallest.

We created our own models and could name some of the 3-D shapes used within them.

We used Lego and unfix cubes to recreate and create our own repeating patterns.

We could identify the heavier and larger items on different balancing scales.

Finally, we used natural resources to create our own repeating patterns.

This week in FS2, we have been applying our Phonics through a range of fun activities.

Take a look at some of the fantastic things we have been doing…

We read words on the balls in the water tray and sorted them into ‘Trash’ or ‘Treasure.’

We used a ‘code breaker’ to identify the sounds in the Phoneme Frames. We then read the words we had spelt by sounding out and blending.

We needed to read some words on cards before choosing a ball or bean bag to throw into the bucket.

We wrote our own captions to match the different picture cards.

This week in FS2, we have been growing cress in the outside area.

First we lined the bottom of a cup with cotton wool dipped in water.

Then we sprinkled the cress seeds onto the cotton wool.

We watered the cress everyday.

And put it out in the spring sunshine.

We observed and recorded what had happened to the seeds.

After a few days, we were amazed to find the seeds had grown into cress!
